Low Emission Technology Australia (LETA)

Founded by the Australian black coal industry, LETA is a member-funded, not-for-profit organisation.

We are dedicated to developing and deploying technologies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions from critical industries like mining, energy, steel and cement.

LETA is proudly supported by a membership of leading Australian resources and energy companies committed to investing in low-emission technologies for a more sustainable future.

Since 2006, our members have contributed more than $A400 million to low-emission projects—unlocking a total investment of $A1.1 billion.

We work closely with our members, industry, governments, international trading partners, and research organisations to support the development of solutions that help meet Australia’s climate targets.

Our mission is to support a low emissions future for hard-to-abate sectors.

On behalf of our members, LETA takes a leadership role in developing low emission technologies in Australia and with our trading partners across the world.

We do this through an investment portfolio focused on developing projects and technologies that:

• Reduce emissions from resource extraction and mining operations.

• Advance near-zero emission, on-demand power generation and low-carbon fuel technologies, like hydrogen, using coal, natural gas or biomass.

• Decrease the costs and improve the efficiency of carbon capture in many industries like steel, cement, and fertiliser production.

• Facilitate partnerships between Australian industries and trading partners on large-scale carbon capture hubs.

• Develop large-scale and cost-effective transport solutions for captured CO₂.

• Decrease the costs, improve the efficiency, and identify new areas for permanent and safe CO₂ storage.
