Low Emission Technology Australia (LETA) welcomes the release of the Net Zero Australia Mobilisation Report.

The report, prepared by an independent expert panel, outlines the significant importance of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) in Australia’s journey towards achieving a net-zero emissions future.

As Australia takes ambitious steps to address climate change and transition to a net zero emissions economy, CCS emerges as a crucial technology in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions across various sectors.

The Net Zero Australia Mobilisation Report rightly emphasises the immense potential of largescale CCS deployment in industries such as power generation, manufacturing, and natural resource extraction.

Crucially, in all modelled scenarios in the report, CCS must be rapidly scaled up in order to reach net zero in the timeframe required and to maximise our clean export opportunities.

In particular, LETA endorses the recommendations for supporting the deployment of CCS outlined in the report, which highlight the need for robust support from Government.

The successful deployment of CCS at a significant scale necessitates financial and policy mechanisms that facilitate the development of infrastructure, research and development, and long-term partnerships with industry stakeholders.

As part of our commitment to advancing low emission technologies, LETA continues to work closely with industry, academia, and government to accelerate the adoption of CCS and other low emission technologies in Australia.

To realise the full potential of CCS, it is essential to establish a supportive policy environment, including financial incentives, regulatory frameworks, and collaboration across sectors. These measures will stimulate private investment, encourage innovation, and foster the growth of a robust CCS industry in Australia.

LETA urges the government and industry leaders to seize the opportunity presented by the Net Zero Australia Mobilisation Report and actively support the development and deployment of large-scale CCS projects in Australia.

LETA is committed to fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing, and innovation in the CCS sector. We will continue to work hand in hand with stakeholders to drive the research, development, and deployment of CCS technologies, making significant contributions to Australia’s net-zero emissions transition.
